The fishing this week showed some signs of improvement, with a few more fish being landed than last week but still below average for October. The tuna bite continues to be about 45 miles out, but those who have been making the run have seen some success. This week was the annual Lynn Rose Tours East Cape Classic tournament which helps raise money for the local community here in the East Cape. 103 participants made there way to Hotel Palmas De Cortez from all over the United States to take part in this years tournament. 32 boats fished the three day fishing event and when it was all said and done, the ?Bite Me? was the overall winner with 7 striped marlin, 1 sailfish, and a 34lb. tuna. The largest tuna went to the boat ?El Dorado? which landed a very nice 85lb. Yellowfin tuna. The largest dorado went to the boat ?J&B? which landed a 28lb. dorado. The total number of billfish landed for this year?s tournament was 4 blue marlin, 48 striped marlin and 41 sailfish.
Mike Rieser, owner of Baja Fly Fishing Co. reported that the inshore fishing has been red hot this past week. Rieser, who guides fly fishing clients out of Punta Colorada and Villas De Cortez this week, said that inshore is where it?s at right now. His clients have been able to land roosters, green jacks, jack cravalle, rainbow runners, big eyed jacks, ladyfish, skip jacks, dorado and bonita just to name a few. ?Many guests only think about billfish, tuna and dorado when they fish the East Cape and forget that there are plenty of other species to be had? said Rieser. This is good advice for those who find the fishing a bit slow while you are down here. Try a day or even a half day of inshore fishing when the offshore fishing is a little slow. You might find that the bite is much better and it beats a long boat ride any day. That is it for this week amigos! Hope to see you all down here soon. Eddie Dalmau/Baja?s Van Wormer Resorts
