Fishing Report
8/17/12
Hola Amigos,
Despite three straight days of heavy rain fall, it was another good week of fishing on the East Cape. The week started with the arrival of the annual Cass Tours tournament “The Big Fish Round Up”. This year’s tournament had more than 65 participants take part in this three days tournament. Richard “Cassman” Castaneda, tournament organizer reported that lots of tuna and Dorado had been caught be everyone. The largest tuna was 77lbs. by Erwin Glicksman and the largest Dorado was 46lbs. caught by Dr. Michael Clayton. Cass went on to say that most of the tuna were football size in the 15-20lbs. range with a few up in the 40’s. The same was true for the Dorado, with most of the fish landed being in the 8-15lbs. range with a few larger than that. Cass also mentioned that the Rooster bite inshore was great. Most of the roosters reported weighed approximately 20-25lbs., and were all released. If you’d like information about next years Big Fish Round Up you can visit the Cass Tours website at www.casstours.com. Next years dates will be August 9-13, 2013. A big thank you to Rauna of Cass Tours for all her hard work in making this tournament possible.
Then came Wednesday, and down came the rain that would leave an entire fleet on anchor for two days. It was disappointing to have a hotel full of guests and no one able to head out. Luckily this morning the wind had died down and the sea was flat as a lake. The rain had pushed north towards Loreto and our fleet was able to get back on the water. I will try to get a report on how the fleet did over the weekend. It is not unusual to have phenomenal fishing right after a storm. Especially the Dorado, who love to hang out underneath floating debris. Some of the other species that were landed this week included Striped Marlin, Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Jacks, Pargo and Wahoo. Until next week! Thanks, Eddie Dalmau/Baja’s Van Wormer Resorts
